High Performance and new style Electric Screwdrivers for 2025

Although manual screwdrivers are some of the most versatile and irreplaceable tools you can have in your collection, they aren’t always the most efficient option. Electric screwdrivers allow you to quickly drive and remove fasteners with the push of a button, providing the automatic functionality of a power drill without the bulky size and heavy weight. That makes electric screwdrivers invaluable for light-duty tasks like assembling furniture, removing battery or outlet covers, hanging picture frames, or tightening up loose cabinet hinges. Plus, their lower torque settings are well-suited for use on delicate materials that could otherwise get damaged by a more powerful tool.

What to Consider as follows

Battery Type

Almost all electric screwdrivers use rechargeable batteries, but type and charging style vary. More powerful options typically use proprietary battery packs—like the 8V DeWalt and 12V Bosch—that charge on a dedicated base. Others use internal batteries with AC charging cords that plug into a standard wall outlet, or micro-USB ports that charge via the USB port on your computer, car, or wall adapter.

Speed

The higher the speed, measured in revolutions per minute (RPM), the faster your driver can sink or remove screws. Faster isn’t always better though, especially with smaller screws. To maintain control regardless of fastener size, look for an electric screwdriver with different speed settings or a variable speed trigger.

Torque

Torque is the rotational force the driver can apply to the screw, and it indicates the type and density of material you can screw into. Drivers that deliver more torque can drive screws deeper into harder wood, while softer woods and particle board require lower torque. Electric screwdrivers with a range of clutch settings are the most versatile because you can adjust the torque to suit a specific job.

Grip

While some electric screwdrivers have the straight, in-line shape of a manual screwdriver, others have the pistol-grip design of a typical power drill (although much smaller). The most versatile options have both, with a bisected body that pivots from one to the other. I’ve found that the shorter length of pistol grip drivers are more convenient for use in tight angles and around corners, while in-line models are better for reaching into deeper or recessed fasteners.

Extra Features

Look for a model that has accessories or features that best suit your working environment, like LED lights for illuminating low-light areas or inside appliances. If you don’t already have a good supply of screwdriver bits already, look for a model that includes its own set.

How We Selected

When assembling this list of electric screwdrivers, we first called upon our own experience using them in the past—in both carpentry and home DIY projects—and sought out the latest models to cover. All of the electric screwdrivers selected below are high-quality, durable options powered by internal rechargeable batteries or proprietary batteries with chargers to prevent battery leakage. We also included both fixed and pivoting models in our lineup and took into account customers’ possible tool-buying budgets and feature models at a wide range of prices.
